After a yet another one year break (you know why!) Sitges ETC is back with a new fantabulous pantomime. Prepare yourself for a visual and musical treat with beautiful songs and dances, audience interaction, gags and terrible puns. Not to mention 86 gorgeous costumes.
You will discover that Aladdin, his mum and two aunts actually live here in Sitges! But how and where will Aladdin meet Jasmine? What will the evil Abanazar do to acquire the magic lamp? What colour will the Genie be? What will the Sultan (not) wear? What will the new panto animal be? All will be revealed at the Retiro Theatre on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th December. Don’t miss it!
As an English-language Amdram Society it stood to reason that SETC should have its own pantomime and since its inception in 2008 the show has been gathering strength year after year. We have staged most of the traditional titles such as Aladdin, Cinderella, Dick Whittington, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Jack & the Beanstalk with all the usual loud audience participation (it’s behind you!) that comes with Panto. Our rehearsals usually start in early September for performances scheduled on the first weekend of December. After using various Sitges venues, SETC has formed an excellent working relationship with the Societat Recreativa el Retiro whose 450-seater auditorium is well suited for a pantomime. Our cast now averages 45 actors, of whom approximately 30 are children. Moreover, a crew of some 20 dedicated helpers work very hard to make sets, props and costumes, and as dancing has become a major component of the show, SETC is delighted to count on the participation of Tina Rodgers as its choreographer.
SETC is proud that its Christmas pantomime has turned into a very popular event in the Sitges cultural calendar.
Despite the pandemic SETC is already working on this year version of Aladdin. We look forward to welcoming you at the Retiro on December 11 and 12.
